Quiet in the library
Today I took Jack to the neighborhood library for the first time.
He absolutely loves books. He has a little chair and two crates of books that he "reads" every day at home in the kitchen. He loves to just sit and turn the pages and make the animal noises for the ones he recognizes. Mommy loves it because this is something he can do quietly for about 15 minutes without biting me. Which allows me to do something productive like read blogs or catch up on my TMZ.com or drink a margarita.
Yes, I am pregnant. What of it? Tequila is one of the viatmins in my prenatal isn't it?
So we went to the library, where I was able to get my very own Chicago library card! Lived here seven years and never set foot in a library, I figured it was about time.
After perusing the fiction shelves and picking up a Bret Easton Ellis novel I have been meaning to read, and looking fruitlessly for the first Harry Potter tome, we headed to the children's room.
Jack couldn't vault out his stroller fast enough. He was so excited to see a roomful of books JUST FOR HIM. They had little tables and chairs and he just kept going to the shelves and bringing me books. Not to read, no, he just wanted to carry them around. He even tried to share them with other kids, which is cute, but not so much when he grabs them back two seconds later.
He sobbed when we had to leave, as if he would never see another book in his whole life. I assured him we would be back, but he didn't believe me. So we're going to try the story time on Thursday. It's for kids six months to 3 years old. This should be an adventure.

I cant' wait to hear how story time goes!
I fear Ethan is going to be illiterate if he keeps on his current track of flipping the pages 3-4 at a time, closing the book and chucking it across the room. No one got through War & Peace like that...
My mom's a librarian in Colorado and she does the kids' story time like once a month or something. she gets all spazed out about doing it (this is because she's a super-fastidious planner, and can't leave anything to chance)...so, if you liked the storytime, be sure and tell the person doing it that it was good.
also, one of her favorite stories to tell me is about a little girl who was in the process of being potty trained, and she told her mom during story time "mom! i have to go to the bathroom!" The mom said "we'll go to the bathroom in five minutes." The next thing anyone knew, the girl had popped a squat in the corner and pooped on the floor. Then she stepped in it. And ran around the kids room...So, as long as Jack doesn't do that, I think it'll probably be a good day.
